AREA CODES HAVE BEEN OBSOLETE FOR YEARS
This is the internet connectivity state in July 2015… No area codes involved at all… except for the control of it, taken over by the Area Code ISP’s. Their fiefdoms are defined by their area code assignments… and their area code assignments are given by national regulators, defined by the numbering plans managed by the International Telecommunications Union.
THE INTERNET HAS NO NATIONAL BOUNDARIES
The area code defined companies stamp national boundaries on the internet. Area codes have been obsolete for over 10 years now…there are no real national boundary anchors on the internet. Packets “roaming” is design intent – Packet-switched networks are much more efficient than the old circuit-switched networks based on the archaic ITU boundaries and based on country codes and area codes. Yet they still bill us as if we were using the circuit switched dinosaur. Never mind about the savings and benefits of Moore’s Law in the chip and fiber technologies – the benefits are kept by the status quo telcos.
WORLD TELCOS HAVE HIGHJACKED INNOVATION
Moore’s Law has been running true since about 1974, and it shows innovations, based on chip technology (almost everything digital) will double in capacity for one half the price every 18 months. The telcos of the world have basically hijacked this innovation and put it into the old circuit-switched business model and have kept all of the cost reduced benefits provided by Moore’s Law to themselves.
ROAMING DISTANCE IS A SCAM – THERE IS NO DISTANCE METRIC ATTACHED TO INTERNET COMMUNICATIONS
There are no national boundaries on the internet design, period. The area code boundaries are propagated forward by the telcos, in order to get more dollars from us. Their business licenses allow them to mine cash from their licensed areas and they have turned the no border internet into a fake border business model, like cookie cutters. slicing and dicing the borderless internet into national communications fiefdoms, using under the floor private internets based on Internet Protocol Exchange nodes (IPX), where they connect us in “long distance” data communications and charge us roaming fees. On the internet, there is no such thing as a “long distance” connection. Distance is a metric used for the definition of circuit-switched telephony. Long distance internet connections are a scam in my experienced opinion. (I can easily prove this with a whiteboard discussion.)
THE REGULATORS ARE PROTECTING THE STATUS QUO MODELS
There is no innovation in status quo business models, just tons and tons of drag. Perhaps our regulators should protect us from the business models foisted upon us by these predatory corporations
THE DIAGRAM SHOWS THE CONNECTIVITY OF THE INTERNET – IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CONNECTIVITY MODEL USED BY TELCOS.
Basically, we are being royally screwed. Pure Internet companies like Microsoft, Amazon, fb, and Google, could and do via apps like Messanger and Skype, usurp the power of the telcos in a heartbeat – using IP metrics rather than area code metrics as done by the Area Code ISP’s.
THE DIAGRAM IS THE INTERNET RENDERING AS OF 2015
The lines on the diagram are big pipes (fiber) where the white lines have huge capacities – the blob colors represent geographical areas of our planet – the density of the blobs, are local connectivity. It is a neuron network in the final analysis. (maybe). <3
Take a look at the website – these gals and guys are doing some good work.
